Prophet Zakariya
Prophet Zakariya (Zechariah) is mentioned in the Quran, primarily in Surah Maryam (Chapter 19), verses 1-15.
Prophet Zakariya was a righteous and devout man who served as a priest in the Temple of Jerusalem. He and his wife, who was barren and unable to conceive, were longing for a child.
Despite their old age, Prophet Zakariya continued to pray to Allah for a righteous heir to inherit his prophetic legacy. One day, while he was praying in the sanctuary, an angel appeared to him, announcing that Allah had accepted his prayer and would bless him with a son named Yahya (John).
Prophet Zakariya was astonished by this miraculous news, especially given his old age and his wife's barrenness. He asked the angel for a sign to confirm the truth of the prophecy, and the angel replied that he would be unable to speak to people for three nights as a sign from Allah.
True to the angel's word, Prophet Zakariya emerged from the sanctuary unable to speak but gestured to the people to glorify and praise Allah. Despite his inability to speak, he continued to communicate with Allah through gestures and signs.
In due time, Prophet Zakariya's wife conceived and gave birth to a son named Yahya (John). Prophet Zakariya was overjoyed and thanked Allah for His mercy and blessings.
Prophet Zakariya's story in the Quran serves as a reminder of the power of prayer, faith, and trust in Allah's wisdom and mercy. It teaches us that Allah can fulfil the desires of His servants, even when the circumstances seem impossible.
